Which one is easier to prove, the existence of God or absence of God?

does God exist

I’ll answer your question in a roundabout way.

In the garden of Eden, God walked in the cool of the day with Adam and Eve. They were in fellowship and this was as it was designed to be. But sin and the resulting fall of humanity changed this all, separating man from God so that we were not able to look upon Him (for their own survival).

Exodus 33:20 And he said, Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live.

Since we are not able to look upon God, we require faith! Faith to reach out to Him, faith to communicate with Him, faith to fellowship with Him.

So, in the age of antiquity, (ie: the period in the Bible before Israel), God was visible in His creation. Man was able to look at the mountains and seas, nature, the sunsets, and the stars at night. All creation would testify to the glory and existence of God. Romans 1 tells us the following,

Rom.1:19 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. 20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: 21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.

Unfortunately, barring a remnant, man failed to do what you are asking! They failed to prove and believe in the existence of God by that which loudly and blatantly proclaimed His power and His name.

Then we come to the age of Israel. In this period of time God worked his signs and wonders among men. Parting the seas, making water from a rock, showing power over plagues and pestilence, doing countless healings, giving victories over mighty armies and enemies, showering fire from the sky, raising the dead, prophesying the future, and exponentially more might works….! Surely God’s mighty signs and miracles would prove the existence of God. Surely man would stand in awe of His mighty hand and believe in Him by seeing his works with their own eyes!

Unfortunately, barring a remnant, man failed to see what you are asking! They failed to see and believe in the existence of God by His power and miraculous displays before their very eyes.

Finally, we come to the age of Grace. In this period of time, (now, in which we live today), God doesn’t require us to believe in His creation, although we can still stare in wonder at a sunset, and even in our wisdom today, we continue to learn of new discoveries in outer space or under the microscope. God doesn’t even require us to believe in His miracles. Yes, He still does miracles today, even if it isn’t commonplace. He still heals, He still protects His own, He still provides supernaturally when the moment requires it. The greatest miracle that God does, yet many ignore, is the simple, yet profound act of grace in saving anyone who turns to Him in trust to His gospel of grace.

Unfortunately, barring a remnant, man failed to trust what you are asking! They failed to trust and believe in the existence of God by the message of the cross-work His Son. They fail to be receptive to those moments of grace that come to them on a recurring basis, where His Holy Spirit brings them to a moment of truth to trust in Him and be saved.

I conclude with this:

It is not a matter of proving God’s existence or not! These has been done over and over through the annuls of time, and man failed them all. God does not need anyone to prove Him to others. No-one will ever believe in God by what they see since God is spiritual and our minds and hearts are so corrupt with sin that we are blind. There is no salvation in proving that God exists. The ONLY thing that counts is faith! The power of salvation today lies in simple faith. Faith to reach out to Him, faith to communicate with Him, faith to fellowship with Him.

Believe in God through His Son, Jesus Christ, and ONLY then will you see God through spiritual eyes that He opens, so that He can show you His marvelous love and grace. And it is ONLY then that you will KNOW that God exists!

John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
