Where do Jesus and Paul disagree?

The fast, and straight up answer to this question is that Jesus and Paul never disagreed! All that Paul wrote and taught in his epistles is in perfect agreement to the will and purpose of God for the grace program. Paul writes the following,

1 Cor.3:5 Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but ministers by whom ye believed, even as the Lord gave to every man? 6 I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase. 7 So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase. … 10 According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon. 11 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.

Paul’s writings were inspired by the Holy Spirit. The foundation that Paul laid was Jesus Christ, so there can be no disagreements in the doctrine. However, this statement is only TRUE if one understands right division of the Word (2 Tim.2:15).

If you do not separate the program of prophecy/law for Israel from the program of mystery/grace for the Body of Christ, it is easy to find contradictions and disagreements between what Jesus and Paul taught.

Take the following as a simple example of forgiveness as a supposed discrepancy:

Jesus says:

Matt.6:14 For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: 15 But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

Paul says:

Eph.4:32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.

Jesus says that in order to be forgiven, one must first forgive. This is a conditional statement. If you do this, God will do that. On the other end of the scale, Paul says that we as grace believers (who have responded in faith to the grace gospel), are ALREADY forgiven (through the cross work of Christ), so, since this is fact, we should go and forgive others.

To the one who does not understand rightly dividing the Word of Truth, this is a contradiction and disagreement. Paul’s advice is contrary to that of Jesus. BUT in actual fact, it is NOT, since we are dealing with two separate programs! Under law, (under the IF/THEN) program of the Jews, to be forgiven, one had to forgive. But since this program was put in hiatus due to Israel’s unbelief, Paul, the apostle of a new program of grace, was instructed by the risen Christ to write that through the gospel one is absolutely and utterly forgiven, therefore recipients should likewise go and forgive. The same Lord inspired BOTH instructions, one for each of the two programs.

So, in summary, an uneducated view of the bible will see all manner of contradictions and discrepancies. There is a myriad of differences between the grace program and the law program. It is easy to pick out disagreements between Jesus and Paul because they taught different audiences under different dispensations. However, the moment one recognizes dispensations, then ALL discrepancies and contradictions are nullified since each program operates under its own unique administration.

Jesus and Paul said exactly what was needed to their audiences and both are in perfect alignment to God’s will and plan.
