Why is the Old Testament not meant for us today?

QUESTION:

Please explain to me why the Old Testament is not meant for us.

ANSWER:

The Old Testament is a record of the history of Israel from Abraham to Christ. It documents God’s dealings with Israel as His chosen nation. The reason for all this history is to document the bloodline of Jesus Christ as the rightful heir and King of Israel, born out of the bloodline of Abraham and of the house of king David. Everything in the Old Testament is about Israel. All prophecy in the Bible belongs to Israel. All the blessings and all the curses belong to Israel. The law is given to Israel to separate and define them as God’s nation.

We as Christians today study the Old Testament so that we can understand God’s full salvation plan for humanity. The Old Testament contains valuable information that we can learn to understand the whole counsel of God, but there is nothing in the Old Testament that pertains to our doctrine for today. We are not under the law today (Rom 6:14). We do not observe the Sabbath. The feasts of Israel, the tenth tithe of Israel, the prophecies, the Levitical priesthood and all the observances and sacrifices of Israel is not part of our doctrine today.

You do not find the Body of Christ in the Old Testament. You do not find salvation without the means of Israel in the Old Testament. You do not find the mystery of God’s grace in the Old Testament. The crucifixion of Christ did not happen in the Old Testament. Our gospel is not in the Old Testament. Gentiles were lost and without hope and God in the Old Testament (Eph.2:12).

God has provided us a completely different doctrine under grace written by the apostle Paul, who is our apostle (Rom.11:13).
