Is rhema word better than the written word?

READERS COMMENT:

You read scripture as if it’s something magical. That we will be changed if we increase our knowledge. Scripture has no power; it points to Him who does. The people we read about in scripture “HAD NO SCRIPTURE”, just a living relationship with God.

That’s the only function of scripture, to remind us of the fact that when those who went before were obedient, not to scripture but, to the rhema word of God, they grew beyond their problems. It points not to itself but to a living relationship with God as the only true source of life that can include scripture but doesn’t require it.

If we believe that we are having relationship with God because we read scripture, then we are busy with idolatry.

MY RESPONSE:

The Bible is just a book. It is made up of paper and ink. Throw it in the fire and it burns up like any other piece of paper. To this point I agree with you. However, when it comes to the actual “words” printed on that paper, that is a WHOLE different story.

You cannot separate the words from the Author or His intentions and desired. The words in the Bible are an extension of the very will and desires of God, for our learning.

Without the Bible we will know nothing about God, barring a few stories handed down through the generations. The Word is a solid foundational grounding that we can read, learn and base our lives upon.

The message in the Bible saves us, gives us purpose and hope. How can we know this all if we do not have the book to tell us.

By the way, without the words in that book, all you have is the voice of deception. You speak about the ‘rhema word of God’. You cannot survive on that alone. That is like a spoon of sugar compared to the full and hearty meal of the written word.

Listen, what happens when Satan’s arrows come into your mind? Are you going to wait for the ‘rhema word of God’? No! One has to ‘test’ any ‘voices’ with the written word. Even Jesus relied on the fact that, “It is written, …”. What about the voice of your own heart which is wicked and deceitful. What about the imagination of your mind which is corrupt. How are you going to prove the validity of those thoughts without the Word? The Bible is the only words that can combat this innate sinful state we are in.

Let me tell you what else the Bible says concerning the words it contains,

The Lord Himself is in His word.

Joh 1:1  In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. … 14  And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

His Words will remain long after creation is gone. God exalts His Word above His name.

Mat 24:35  Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.

Psa 138:2  I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.

Without the words in this book, you will not know how to be saved. It is the power of God unto salvation.

Rom 1:16  For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. … Rom 10:13  For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Where are the words that Jesus speaks to us today? Is He physically here on earth? No! So the words we read in the pages of the Bible are His words. They are spirit and they are life.

Joh 6:63  It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.

What more can I say about this verse below?

Heb 4:12  For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

There is nothing magical in the ‘physical book’ called the Bible, but man, if you open it up and read those words, and if those words sink down into your understanding, then there is something FAR greater than magic, there is LIFE. There is PEACE, there is LOVE. There is HOPE. Take those words away and you have NOTHING but fear, condemnation, and an eternal death.

I’ll take the words in that book any day.
