QUESTION:
I am half and half with my salvation. Deep down I
feel like I'm saved, but doubt shoots that down quite often. I do want to be
saved. I do feel love for Jesus and have a longing for him and to obey and
follow him. I've been told that this longing that I feel is proof that I'm
saved and then I've also been told that that's not enough. I'm guessing where
you stand on this, but I'd like to hear your thoughts. Is that longing to be
with Jesus enough? Or “evidence"? Or something else?
ANSWER:
The first thing to mention is that faith is not a
feeling. I mention this because 3 times in your comment above you mention this.
Can I speak plainly (and bluntly). Forget about feeling anything. Feelings are
just going to mess with faith. So, get that off your chest!!
The next thing to say is this: Have you heard the gospel of
the cross, how that Jesus Christ died for your sins, (so you could be forgiven
and redeemed), and how that Jesus was buried and rose again, (so that you can
be justified (pronounced innocent by God))? (See 1 Cor.15:1–4).
Now, if you have heard this good news message and you have
chosen to believe in it; NOT by feelings, but by simply choosing to believe it,
by trusting that the cross work of Jesus Christ has fully paid for your sin
debt, and that by Christ alone, without any works you do, God will save you,
then my friend….you are saved. That’s it!! No feelings. No tingling sensations
needed. You accept it by faith, knowing that God is not a man that He should lie.
Lastly, let me give you some confidence in the above. God
has made a decree in His Word that whosoever believes on His Son, will be saved,
(see verse below). It is a commitment that God has made in heaven. It is a
decree that is settled by a KING. That decree CANNOT be changed. As God spoke
and the worlds were made, in the same way, God has spoken this decree; “He who
believes on my Son, I will save!”.
Have you chosen to trust in Jesus? If yes, you are SAVED as
saved can be. No feelings needed!!!
Read the following several times:
If you have any more questions, let me know. I can tell you
though that God has made salvation one of the easiest things to do. We do not
have to work to earn it. We do not need to perform any ceremony. We do not have
to meet any pre-required conditions to qualify. Salvation is a simple
confidence in the cross of Christ. Trust that ENTIRELY! Trust that Jesus’ death
was the payment for your redemption. When you do, God nails your sins to the
cross and He imputes the righteousness of Jesus to your account. All this is
done by God. It is His doing. All you can do is trust in Him.
I hope that gives you some peace and some direction. Oh! And
by the way. Since it is God who does all this for you, simply because you
believe in His Son, then WHO IN THIS WORLD can take it away. Who in this world
can cancel that deed. What can anyone say to reverse what God has done. (See
Rom.8:35-39)
If God had His Son killed as the condition to save you, HOW
MUCH MORE will God save you in order to honour the death sacrifice of His Son.
God is good. Hallelujah!!
