Hello friend,
In Hebrews 11:1 it tells us that faith is the substance of things hoped for. If you want to be SURE of salvation, which you hope for, you need faith. Thus, the actual question one must ask is, “How do I get faith”, which will give one surety of salvation.
Fortunately, the bible gives us the answer to this question. We find it here:
Rom 10:14-17 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? (15) And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things! … (17) So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
If you want faith, you need to hear the word of God.
To hear the word of God is to receive it into your understanding. This can be by means of hearing or reading the words of God and then processing what you have received into your understanding. It will be meaningless to hear or read the words and then ignore them. It is important to contemplate them, understand what the message is saying, and then choose to believe that message, just as verse 14 says above.
So, what must you do to be sure of your salvation?
Get the word of God, specifically the book of Romans, into your soul. The epistle of Romans is all about salvation. It tells how we have all forgotten about God and gone astray. It tells how we are all deserving of God’s wrath and the death penalty. We have no hope without the substitutionary sacrifice of Jesus Christ to save us. In chapter 3 Paul tells us the good news that God has made a way to redeem us and save us. He writes one of the GREATEST passages of truth ever penned:
Rom 3:21-26 But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; (22) Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: (23) For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; (24) Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: (25) Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; (26) To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.
In this passage we learn the following:
- God wants to save us
- God sacrificed His Son for our redemption
- The death of Christ is the appeasement of our unrighteousness
- The debt of sin has been paid in full
- Our sins are placed on Christ and His righteousness is imputed to us
- God promises us that if we believe in His Son, we will be saved.
Friend, I can promise you that if you read (or listen) to Romans chapters 1 to 8 a few times, with the aim of truly understanding the text, the result will be that the word of God will produce the faith in you to the point that you will KNOW you are saved.
The ONLY place you can get faith to be sure of your salvation is in the word of God, and specifically, the book that deals with salvation, Romans. Seeking for that surety in any other place is fruitless, as no other place has the words of truth or the power to save.
God bless.
