"Thus saith the LORD of hosts; In those days it shall come to pass, that ten men shall take hold out of all languages of the nations, even shall take hold of the skirt of him that is a Jew, saying, We will go with you: for we have heard that God is with you." — Zechariah 8:23 (KJV)
A Prophecy of Israel’s Future Prominence
This verse reveals a profound prophecy concerning Israel’s restoration and role in the future millennial kingdom. It describes a time when people from all nations will seek out Israel, recognising that God’s presence and blessing are uniquely upon them. The image of Gentiles taking hold of the skirt of a Jew is symbolic of their desire to be associated with God's chosen people, acknowledging His divine favour upon Israel.
The phrase "In those days" refers to a future period, distinct from the current dispensation. This is not a reference to our present age of grace, but rather to the time when Christ establishes His earthly reign as King during the millennial kingdom. At that time, Israel will be restored as the centre of God’s earthly administration, and the nations will seek wisdom and guidance through them.
Not for This Present Dispensation
It is crucial to rightly divide the Word of God to understand the distinction between prophecies concerning Israel and the present age of grace. Today, in this current dispensation, there is no distinction between Jew and Gentile in terms of salvation. All men stand equally guilty before God, and salvation is available to all those who believe in Jesus Christ—not through Israel’s national prominence.
Unlike the future millennial kingdom, today the gospel is freely offered to all who believe (Rom.3:22), independent of Israel’s role. The way to God is not through Israel, but through faith in Jesus Christ. Anyone—Jew or Gentile—can come to God by believing in the finished work of Christ on the cross.
The Call to Salvation Today
While Zechariah 8:23 speaks of a future fulfilment in the millennial kingdom, the urgency of salvation is for today. You do not need to wait for a kingdom to be established on earth—you can come to God right now!
Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ—that He died for you, was buried, and rose again for your salvation. Through Him, you are justified freely by His grace. This is the gospel that saves—not by works, not by association with Israel, but by faith alone in Jesus Christ.
